For this project, our team was provided raw data on Malawi National Bank, a microfinance bank with 6 branches situated across East Central Africa. Our team processed the datasets by initially assessing data quality. After our huddle, we focused on our findings and performed the overall data analysis using SAS.

For the data visualization, I took the lead in creating the final product using Tableau. However, due to the limitations of this website, I was only able to upload a PDF file and screenshots of the actual dashboard.

Several data visualization techniques (e.g. bar graph, highlight table, packed bubbles, etc.) were utilized in this report. However, I have summarized the informative snapshots of two essential business factors: Branch and Product.

For the Branch Overview, we were able to identify Branches 3 and 6 as having the best loan collection practices. On the other hand, we have determined that Branch 5 as one of the smallest branches yet has one of the highest arrears amount. These findings serve as grounds for revisiting bank services in specific branches.

For the Product Overview, we have confirmed that in line with the bank's main purpose of alleviating people out of poverty, the most used reason for loaning is for funding of Business. The loans under this classification also has a good payback capacity.

From our analysis, we have concluded on the following findings and provided suggestions in improving their services.

1) There were many credits given without good application score of the client. This should be investigated, and policies should be improved.

2) The bank should consider lower credits amounts in these branches or decline credit to low application score holders.

3) The bank has too big trust in self-employed customers and customers with low literacy level - even when they have low application score, they were given the credit and unfortunately, they do not pay it back.

Overall, businesses signal good indicator of Malawi community development and good overall payback capacity provided that these businesses have secured return on investment. Loan portfolio can be improved by selling more loan products. Increasing lending activity, given the improving payment ability of the borrowers should subsequently boost the loan portfolio performance.
